The image shown to the left is the wireframed model of the the structure of the 60S Ribosomal Subunit. The JSmol image is based on pdb file 3U5D. Several toxins function to disable this very important molecular machine. Two toxins that disable the ribosome at the same location are ricin (derived from the castor plant) and sarcin (which is a toxin derived from a fungus).

The sarcin-ricin loop shown in the wireframe framework. Look for the red loop location.

The sarcin-ricin loop illustrated using a backbone model. Look for the red loop location.
