E-Coli
- a gram negative bacteria  belonging to the family Enterobacteriaceae

-resides most often in intestinal like environments 

-thrives anaerobically in the gut, breaking down food particles for the host organism

-in the process providing several different kind of vitamins, vitamin K and B complex in particular.  

Outside the body...

-fecal material could find its way to water supplies. If e-coli is found, it is a sign that the water supply could be contaminated with more serious disease organisms such as hepatitis. 

-concentration not likely to be as high at lower temperatures

Outside the body...

-bacteria can be destroyed by heating to normal cooking temperatures.

-if E-coli is  present on food that is not normally cooked such as fresh spinach, or in food that is inadequately cooked such as rare meat such as rare hamburger, the strains of E-coli present will be passed on to the consumer.   

Outside the body...

The importance of this cannot be overstated.
